RE: RE: RE: Custom Song Creation and Insertion Tutorial

Re: xfire/IRC... So don't use browser clients, there are plenty of good standalone IRC clients. We do all of our hacking over IRC, which is just why it's the best way to learn anything about the internals of the game from us, including charting, animation events, and so on. I don't like installing xfire myself, if there's some crappy browser client for it I'd be happy to use it instead :P

1) I guess it could be tweaked. Special events like that should happen pretty rarely, but maybe I made them occur too often. Though realistically, my time to spend on RawkSD is limited and perfecting the automatic animations isn't high priority (if charting animations were easier / better explained maybe more charts would have them).

2) We haven't reversed the lip sync data yet. We haven't even begun to look at it, so we just can't do anything like that yet :P... Again, not so high priority :/

3) The Wii version supports it (and incidentally RawkSD v2.x has album art support in it, it's just hidden / a more involved process), but the Wii version of the game has a horrible bug in it; any attempt to use album art in DLC will end up with the game randomly crashing minutes later (doing something unrelated, like playing a song, or going through menus). It's probably the reason why official DLC doesn't have album art, and maybe even why the music store was delayed in January. It works, but they didn't seem to test it enough so we can't really use it unless you want your game crashing every so often.

4) Yeah, most likely not doable with RawkSD. If someone wants to remove the disc checksum from the game and start modifying the game scripts, it's possible. But they'd have to be really fluent in DataArray scripts...

5) Don't use spaces in section names; use underscores. Underscores *should* always appear as spaces in practice mode, but for some reason it looks like they only do half of the time. We haven't really looked into it, sometimes underscores work as spaces, sometimes they end up just underscores. Official songs use underscores.

6) Check back soon for progress (another reason why I suggest IRC, to keep in touch with the latest and greatest haxx :P), but it won't be Beatles.

Re: Custom Song Creation and Insertion Tutorial

By all means, go ahead and start your own page(s). If it's written well enough, it can replace the Installation Guide. I did start my own MIDI explanation pages for charting, but never got the time to really write anything useful. I suggest that you come by our IRC Channel, since a few of us could tell you different charting tricks not really documented anywhere on ScoreHero and the like.

"But after fooling with it, I realized that it is just very picky with the midi files you feed it." Don't be afraid to tell me specifics, since I could modify the program just to deal with these things better. If you have issues with "pickiness" or anything, let me know about it rather than resorting to a workaround in a guide.

Sorry for the late reply, things have gotten hectic with school just starting for me this week. Aaron 05:34, 10 September 2009 (UTC)
